Google Business Profile for a Business in Eilat: How the Tourist Already in the City Finds You

9 min readUpdated 18.8.2026alma studio

The Google Business Profile is your business's free card on Google Maps and in Google Search. For a business in Eilat it is the main channel to the tourist who is already in the city, searching on their phone for what to do right now. For them to find you, you need the right category. Hours that are current for the season, for Shabbat and for holidays. Real photos. Reviews in several languages, with replies. And a check once a month of what worked. Most businesses in the city open a profile and forget about it.

What a tourist in Eilat actually types into Google

A tourist in Eilat searches on their phone. Nearby. Now. Usually with words like near me or open now or on Shabbat. They want an answer for the next hour or for tomorrow morning. Restaurant near me. What to do in Eilat with kids. Open on Shabbat Eilat. For searches like these, Google shows the map first, with three businesses. Those three come from the Google Business Profile, not from your website.

The tourist does not know your brand. Google itself explains on its help page that local ranking is set by relevance, distance and prominence. You have no control over the distance from the searcher. You do have control over the other two. Relevance is how well the profile matches what was typed. Prominence is how well Google knows you, from reviews, from mentions and from your website.

You have two audiences on the same profile. According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), about 57 thousand people live in Eilat, and according to the State Comptroller about 90 percent of the jobs in the city are tied to tourism. We collected the full numbers in Eilat tourism numbers for business owners. The resident types a business name, or carpenter in Eilat, and looks for someone who will still be here in winter. The tourist types what they need right now. Both land on the same card.

And there is one more thing that makes Eilat different. The tourist leaves after a few days. They find you today, come tomorrow, and the day after that they are on the way home. You do not have a week to fix a first impression.

Why "restaurants in Eilat" is taken and where you can win

A laptop with a Google search and a cup of coffee next to it
It is worth searching Google for your own sector and seeing who actually shows up there before you

On a general search like restaurants in Eilat, the regular results are taken by tourism guides, hotel chain sites and booking sites. An independent restaurant will almost never get there with its own website.

So where can you win. First of all on the map. The question of how to appear on Google Maps starts with the profile, not with the website. The three businesses next to the map are chosen by relevance, distance and prominence, so a restaurant on the North Beach can appear before a hotel chain. Then in the specific searches. Fish restaurant on the North Beach. Breakfast near the hotels. Intro dive in Eilat. There is less competition there and more intent. A page on your website that answers exactly such a phrase can rank, and that is part of the work of SEO for a business in Eilat.

For tradespeople the picture is even more open. When we checked the results page for carpentry shop in Eilat, almost all the results were directories and only one was a business website. A carpenter or a plant nursery with a full profile and a small website can take an open spot there.

And this holds for AI assistants too. According to Google's official guide to AI optimization from July 2026, there are no special requirements, and for a local business the base is the Google Business Profile. According to Whitespark's local ranking factors survey for 2026, three of the top five factors for visibility in AI are mentions of the business on other sites. How to get the chat tools to recommend your business is explained in our guide on what GEO is.

Which category to choose for a business in Eilat

The primary category is the most important decision in the profile, because it decides which searches Google even considers showing you for. Google allows one primary category and up to nine more. A precise category puts you into a search with fewer competitors and more intent.

The table below shows what we recommend for the common sectors in Eilat. The names vary a little between the Hebrew and English interfaces, so type the word into the category search box and see what Google suggests. You can also open a strong competitor's profile and see which primary category they chose.

After the category, fill in the rest with no shortcuts. The business name exactly as it appears on the sign. Google does not allow adding words like best in Eilat to the name if they are not part of it, and the profile can be suspended for that. An exact address with the pin in the right place on the map. One phone number that gets answered. A link to the website. And the attributes the tourist filters by. Outdoor seating, accessibility and parking.

Opening hours for the season, for Shabbat and for holidays

In Eilat the hours change with the season, and the tourist trusts what Google says. If the hours are wrong, Google filters you out when someone searches open now. Or the tourist arrives at a locked door and leaves a review about it.

Regular hours get updated at every change of season, not once at setup. According to the CBS, hotel occupancy in Eilat in the third quarter of 2024 was 87.9 percent, against 66.4 percent in the first quarter. Water sports beaches run longer hours in summer and restaurants cut back in January. Every change like that needs to reach the profile the same week. What to update before each season is collected in the seasonality and budget calendar for a business in Eilat.

Special hours are the tool for holidays. Set them in advance for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover and Sukkot, not on the eve of the holiday. When you do not set them, Google shows the searcher a note that hours may differ on the holiday. In Eilat, Shabbat is a working day for most tourism businesses, so Shabbat hours must be set and not left empty. Whoever searches open on Shabbat Eilat lands on the map with the open now filter. If your Shabbat is empty, you are not there.

There are also more hours by type. Delivery, or kitchen. If you close for a month in the low season, mark the business temporarily closed instead of leaving wrong hours, and remove the mark the day you open. A sea activity that depends on the wind gets updated that same morning, in that day's special hours.

A description and photos that speak to the tourist and the resident

The description and the photos are what the tourist scans in a few seconds. Write for someone who does not know Eilat, and photograph what they will actually see when they arrive.

Google limits the description to 750 characters. Use it to say where you are relative to places a tourist knows. Across from the hotels on the North Beach, or near the port. What you do, in one sentence. Which languages are spoken at your place. Kosher. Parking. From what age. No prices, no deals and no links. There is no separate description per language, so add a few sentences in English at the end.

With photos there is no substitute for the truth. A logo and a cover photo. The front of the business from the street, by day and by night, so the tourist recognizes you when walking by. The inside of the place. The dishes. The boat. The team. Upload photos through the season, not all at once at setup.

A restaurant adds a menu to the profile, or a link to the menu on the website, and for a foreign tourist it needs English there too. For a water sports beach and for an attraction, the photos do the menu's job. A photo of a family on the banana boat says more than a paragraph.

How to ask for a review from a tourist who leaves tomorrow, and in which languages

Ask for the review at the moment the customer is happiest. On the spot. With a direct link to the review form. Because a tourist who leaves tomorrow will not remember you next week.

Why it is worth the effort. Google writes on its help page that the number of Google reviews a business has and their score affect local ranking. And according to Whitespark's 2026 survey, reviews are about 18 to 20 percent of a local business's visibility weight in AI answers.

And in which languages. In the customer's language. A review in English, Russian or French helps the next tourist in that language, and Google translates reviews automatically for anyone reading in another language. Reply in the language the review was written in. According to the CBS, about 23 percent of Eilat's residents are immigrants who arrived from 1990 onward, and a review in Russian serves some of them too.

The review link is in the profile manager, under ask for reviews. Google gives you a short link, and from the link you make a QR code. Put it on the bill, on the boat and in the WhatsApp confirmation message.

  • The right moment. After dessert. Stepping off the boat. Returning dive gear. Handing over keys. Not during payment
  • One personal sentence. Enjoyed it? It would help us a lot if you wrote two words about it on Google
  • Remove friction. A QR code that opens the review window directly. Most tourists are signed in to Google on their phone and it takes a minute
  • A reminder that same evening. If you have their number from the booking, send a short message with the link. By tomorrow they are already on the Arava road
  • A reply within a day or two to every review. The positive ones too
  • What is not allowed: a discount or a gift in exchange for a review. Filtering and asking only happy customers. Reviews you write yourself. All three are against Google's policy and can get reviews removed

Questions and answers, posts and products on the profile

These are the parts most businesses in Eilat leave empty, and they answer exactly the questions a tourist asks before calling.

Questions and answers. Anyone can ask on your profile and anyone can answer. If you do not answer, someone else does, or an old answer stays up. So write the common questions yourself and answer them. Parking. Booking ahead. Age. Kosher. Shabbat. And turn on the alert for new questions.

Posts. Short updates with a photo that appear on the profile. Season opening. Holiday hours. Closing because of wind. The newest goes to the top, so once every week or two is a good pace.

Products and services. For a water sports beach, each activity on its own with a photo and a price. For a dive center, each course. For a carpentry shop, the types of work. This is what Google shows when someone searches for a specific activity and not for the business name. And next to it, a booking link that leads to your website or booking system. If you do not have a business website yet, keep the phone number and the WhatsApp prominent.

What to measure on the profile

Once a month, open the profile's performance report and look at how people found you and what they did next. Not just how many views there were.

The report shows how many times you appeared in Search and how many in Maps. Which words people typed to reach you. How many called, asked for directions or clicked through to the website. In Eilat you compare a month to the same month last year, not to the previous month, because otherwise the season distorts every comparison.

The search list splits in two. Searches for the business name, and searches for what you do. If almost everything is the business name, people reach you only through recommendations and not through discovery on Google, and that is a sign the category or the description is not working. And if you add a source tag (UTM) to the website link, you see in analytics how much of the site traffic came from the profile.

A drop in views outside the season is normal. A drop inside the season is a sign to check. Hours that got mixed up. A category that changed. A profile suspension. Or a new competitor that opened nearby. And alongside the numbers, track how many reviews came in this month and how many got a reply.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my business not show up on Google Maps?

First check whether the profile is verified. A profile that has not been verified cannot be managed, and sometimes it is not shown at all. Then duplicates, two profiles for the same business. Then a wrong primary category and a pin in the wrong place on the map. And if the profile shows up when people search the name but not when they search the sector, that is not a problem of existence but of ranking.

How many reviews do you need?

There is no magic number. Google writes that the number of reviews and the score affect local ranking, but does not publish a threshold. In practice, what matters is being in the range of the nearby competitors in your category, and that the reviews are fresh. A business that gets a few new reviews every month of the season looks alive.

Should you reply to reviews in English?

Yes, and in the language the review was written in. A reply of a sentence or two in English, Russian or French shows the next tourist in that language that there is someone to talk to. Google translates reviews automatically, so reviews in several languages serve everyone.

What do you do with a negative review from a tourist?

Reply within a day or two, in a calm tone. What happened from your side, in one sentence. What you fixed. And an invitation to continue by phone. Do not argue. A review that breaks Google's rules, like spam or someone who was never at your business, you report from inside the profile, but Google removes only what actually breaks the rules.

Is a Google profile enough without a website?

For a tradesperson starting out it is a good start. But the profile belongs to Google, not to you, and it can be suspended. A website gives you pages for the specific phrases the profile does not catch. Languages. Bookings. And according to Whitespark, dedicated service pages on the website are the second most important factor for visibility in AI answers. Start with the profile and add a website when there is budget.

How do you change holiday hours without touching the regular hours?

Through special hours. You set a date and hours for that day only, and the regular hours come back automatically the next day. Do it a few weeks before the holiday, because the tourist plans ahead. And if you close for Yom Kippur, mark closed on that date.
